Oshiroi is a delicate floral-powder perfume built around precious Florentine orris butter, violet enfleurage, and ylang ylang extra. It opens with sparkling violet enfleurage, revealing a heart of ylang ylang extra and heliotrope, before settling into a luminous, powdery base of pure orris butter from Florence — evoking the soft, white makeup worn by maiko and geiko for centuries.
Handcrafted in Canada by perfumer Matthew Meleg in collaboration with the Umeno Geisha Tea House of Kamishichiken, Oshiroi is made in small batches using pure orris butter and rare natural materials chosen for their softness, grace, and timeless beauty. Strictly limited to 500 pieces worldwide, each set includes a certificate of authenticity signed by Matthew Meleg, Yuko Nakaji, and Umemai-chan, Maiko of the Umeno House.

I managed my families "Meleg's Orchard," in a small south Ontario town until I was 25. The orchard started with Sam Meleg, a Slovak from the Provence of Vojvodina, former Kingdom of Serbia of the Austro Hungarian Empire. My work ethic, self deprecating humour and stubborn nature is reflective of my Slovak, peasant roots.
Here my cousins are laying crops into the "apple bin." My wooden perfume box is meant to represent apple bins. Be they rose, vetiver or jasmine farmers. Be they from India, Mexico, Canada or Iran - Meleg Perfumes celebrates farmers and artisans of all nations.
